Research consistently identifies lack of awareness as the primary barrier to proper e-waste management. In a study of Brunei Darussalam (Deuraseh et al., 2024, Technium Sustainability Journal), 57.3 per cent of respondents knew about electronic waste — yet 67.4 per cent stored e-waste at home and fewer than 3 per cent actively recycled it.
